Lake Living in South Calgary: Mahogany or Auburn Bay?
Both communities are built around a private residents’ lake. Here is how they compare for families, budgets and everyday life.

Few cities let you live on a lake twenty-five minutes from downtown, but south Calgary has two communities that do: Mahogany and Auburn Bay. Both are built around a residents-only lake with beaches, skating and paddling, and both sit right beside Seton’s shops and the South Health Campus. So which is right for you?
The lakes
Mahogany’s lake is the larger of the two, at roughly 63 acres, with two beach areas and a beach club. Auburn Bay’s 43-acre lake has its own lake house and beaches. Both charge an annual residents’ association fee that covers lake access and programming, so ask for the current amount before you buy.
The homes
Mahogany is still growing, so you will find more brand-new builds and a wide range of price points, from townhomes to estate lakefront homes. Auburn Bay is a little more established, with mature landscaping and a strong resale market.
Everyday life
- Schools: both communities have elementary schools inside the neighbourhood, with more planned.
- Shopping: Mahogany Village Market and Seton’s district are minutes away from either.
- Commuting: Stoney Trail and Deerfoot Trail serve both communities.
The best way to decide is to spend a Saturday walking both shorelines. Call me and I will put together a short list of homes in each so you can compare them side by side.
